Valentine’s Day – likely the most poorly timed commercial holidays out there. I mean, does it have to take place right after you spend more than you’d like to over the holidays and a couple months before Mr. Taxman comes knockin again?
The answer is yes because no one has the power to reschedule an international holiday BUT we do have the power to shop thoughtfully for our best mates within a reasonably budget.
Here are some unique gift suggestions that won’t break the bank but will break their expectations!
- HAND DRAWN PORTRAIT – @PSIDREWYOU
This is perfect for the person who appreciates art and home decor that represent who they are. Send @PSIDREWYOU a picture on Instagram and have it turned into a piece of art that can be used online as an avatar or in the house as a statement piece. @PSIDREWYOU works on a “pay what you want” system.
2. HEART SHAPED CONVERSATION DOUGHNUTS – KRISPY KREME
With four different flavours and everyday phrases that’ll make anyone with a sense of humour smile, these doughnuts are a great gift for those with a sweet tooth. The flavours include cake batter, strawberry and kreme, raspberry and chocolate. They’re available until February, 14th!
3. EXPERIENTIAL GIFTS – GAMETIME APP
If you’re shopping for someone who always digs a night out, then you might want to check out the GAMETIME App for last minute deals on sports games, concerts, comedy shows, and more! I just noticed marked down tickets to Travis Scott’s Toronto concert in March for $64! BRB!!
4. PERSONALIZED PLANTS – ETSY
We all know that person who’s SERIOUS about improving their air quality. That friend who’d rather have a million plants scattered around their apartment than space to comfortably walk through. It’s that zen life! On Etsy, you can easily find vendors who will offer personalized planters. Throw on their name, favourite quote or inside joke, and I promise you it will become that one thing they save in a hypothetical “If you had a fire in your apartment what would you save” question.
This is one wild idea but it might be the one suggestion that will really go the distance. Ancestry tests have been around for decades and we’ve seen the heightened interest adapted into television and web shows like Finding Your Roots as of late. Millennials tend to have an open mind and strong appetite to learn about their roots. This would be a great opportunity to get to know your partner a whole lot more and encourage them to do the same!
At the end of the day, we don’t need Valentine’s Day to show our partners the love we have for them, because after all, February 14th is just another day in the calendar. However, if you are going to show them how much they mean to you with a gift in toe, don’t be afraid to get creative!
