Ruby Rose; a name that’s been floating around the internet and social media ever since she landed a lead role on Netflix’s third season of Orange Is the New Black.
The Australian actress had made some big waves in a very short period of time, not only for her performance as inmate Stella Carlin but as an advocate for mental health causes and a popular public figure who confidently identifies herself as gender-neutral and fluid.
The 29-year-old recently released an insanely inspiring short film entitled “Break Free,” which Rose describes as a film “about gender roles, Trans, and what it is like to have an identity that deviates from the status quo.”
In the short, Rose is depicted as a beautifully polished female with a perfect face of make-up and long blonde hair. But when the facade is up, she bravely cuts off her hair, binds her breasts and washes off her makeup to reveal a body riddled with bold and beautiful tattoos.
The video is mesmerizing, inspiring and thought provoking. My only issue with it is that I wish it were longer!
Ruby Rose, thank you for staying true to who you are, despite the pressures of fame. And thank you for being a voice and a face for millions of people who identify themselves as gender-neutral, but who may not have the courage to stand out and be proud of who they are.
And for these simple yet powerful reasons, Ruby Rose is my Woman Crush Wednesday.
